Epidemiological data indicate that between 70% and 80% of nursing home residents experience depression, severe mental illness, or dementia. Grabowski et al. report that 65% to 91% of residents in these settings have a significant mental health disorder, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, and other psychiatric conditions. Behavioral symptoms commonly associated with dementia—such as agitation and aggression—as well as anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders, are highly treatable.

Despite the high prevalence of these conditions, access to mental health care remains limited. One study found that approximately 80% of nursing home residents with mental illness did not receive care from a psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, or licensed social worker, as evidenced by a lack of corresponding Medicare Part B claims. Furthermore, residents of long-term care facilities have long endured periods of social isolation.

Over half of nursing home residents suffer from clinical depression

Capri Therapy addresses this challenge through its specialized Geropsychology Services, tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals in sub-acute, long-term care, and assisted living facilities.
